1.  Go room-by-room
When you first start to prepare for a big move, you’ll want to go room by room and sort through everything in that room. This is the most effective way to downsize since you won’t be overwhelmed by bringing everything into your living space to go through it. Take your time and go room-by-room, especially if you aren’t in a rush to move.
